Dramione fanfic > Q1 planning

If you are one of earth's top performers and you're currently riding that fresh-planner high and mapping out your world domination strategy for 2025, I genuinely love that for you and wish I could siphon some of it off of you.

May your color-coded spreadsheets bring you joy.

But if you're like me and your biggest goal right now is figuring out how to hibernate until February, I hereby invite you to join me as I:

  • Delete any email with "resolution" in the subject line
  • Respond "new phone who dis" to anyone asking about my Q1 objectives
  • Read Dramoine fanfic (Manacled is leaving ao3 tomorrow, so download ASAP)
  • Set reminders on my phone to eat a vegetable in between all the left over Christmas cookies
  • Watch all 5 Twilight movies in one sitting while wearing my shirt with Edward's face on it (yes I bought this *again* recently because I'm not sure what happened to the one I purchased at Hot Topic in 2008)
  • Take everything out of my closet and only keeping things that "spark joy" or "adequately cover my body" get to stay
  • Rebrand my procrastination as "strategic delayed action"
  • Feel entirely overstimulated by all the new stuff we've accumulated in the last week and research local dumpster rentals
  • Throw away all the "important" papers cluttering my office and prioritize feeling good in my space if I expect myself to be productive in the new year
  • Try again next week

Ya know, the world will still be here when you're ready to emerge from your blanket fort.

Your email list won't spontaneously combust if you take a break from nurturing them (you didn't even realize I took last Monday off, did ya??)

And those social media posts you're feeling guilty about not planning and batching? I promise no one is sitting by their phone thinking "but where is Reader's thought leadership content?"

You don't have to optimize every minute. You're allowed to just exist sometimes without turning it into content.

(Yes, I see the irony in turning this realization into content, but I promise I'll only eat Reese's for lunch to atone.)

Sometimes the most strategic move is knowing when to put the strategy on pause.

Doing lots and lots of nothing,
Olivia

Business & Other Bad Words

Once a week, I break down what actually makes marketing work & how you can leverage your humanity to run your own business in a way that makes the self-aware robots jealous. Other times, I'm just in your inbox reminding you I'm in your corner and that community is our superpower (and also that swearing helps).

A Cybertruck runs over the Duolingo mascot, Duo. Entirely in vain if you ask me.

Introducing a morbid and informative segment I'm excited to call... Today's cadaver: The Duolingo Death Stunt You know you're out of marketing ideas when you resort to killing off your mascot for attention. This week, we're slicing open Duolingo's recent "kill the owl" campaign to extract whatever wisdom we can from the digital equivalent of faking your own death to see who shows up at your funeral. In case you've been blessed with better things to pay attention to, in early February Duolingo...

Graphic from @brennadoodles of a hand holding an American flag, with the words "It's patriotic to want what's best for your country and ALL those who live in it."

This morning, I stumbled upon a quote, one sentence from Dan Savage's podcast (someone I'd never heard of until today) about how activists fought during one of America's darkest chapters. "During the darkest days of the AIDS crisis we buried our friends in the morning, we protested in the afternoon, and we danced all night, and it was the dance that kept us in the fight because it was the dance we were fighting for." - Dan Savage They were fighting a mountain of lies, that AIDS was a "gay...

After 5 days in Puerto Vallarta with the best community a girl could ask for, I hopped on a flight to Portland (at my husband’s encouragement) to visit my sister instead of heading straight home. “Thank you Jameson,” we say in unison. No visit to Portland is complete without also spending 3 hours in Powell’s. Powell’s is the world’s largest new & used independent bookstore, and is actually dubbed “Powell’s City of Books”. It’s absolutely enormous and ridiculously fantastic, with over 68,000...
